"Duke go to hell and take state with you!" is a chant heard often enough by the faithful of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, home to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. One of the devoted made the pilgrimage to Ojai many years ago, but has never forsaken her alma mater. In the spirit of devotion we created a place for her to watch UNC basketball and just about the coolest place for anyone to watch March madness. Obviously it functions quite well on a daily basis and her husband was the one who made it easy. He said," I want a barbecue that looks like a mining camp from the Sierras." And with that I had my form and my function. What you see is the balance that we struck with those two things in mind.
Life on the water, any body of water, is sublime. It is the ghost of Thoreau calling from the depths," Simplify. Simplify. Simplify." Beach houses are a joy because the whole mandate is the view. This kitchen was done for the most loving woman I know other than my mother. Her family and friends are everything to her. And you can usually find them camped out at this temple of fun in the sun. The food is exceptional and the company is better. The extended family can be found here on any given holiday. If you are lucky enough to be friends with this amazing tribe of surf bums you have probably been to a party or bridal/baby shower here. Or if you were lucky enough to be wandering by at sunset you have probably been invited in for a drink. Regardless of the reason or occasion if you have been here you have been touched by this families warmth and hospitality. It doesn't get any better than this.
No other home embraces the joy found in embracing your whims like this homage to art and travel.
